Apple over the past few years has done a massive expansion into India, and now they have become one of the biggest new job providers in India.
In the last 19 months, Apple and its partners have created 100,000 new jobs, and counting. Even according to the Inc42 site, since August 2021 Apple has become the largest employment provider in the electronics sector.
Of the total jobs that were opened, 62% came from Apple's work partners such as Foxconn, Pegatron, and Wistron, or around 62 thousand jobs. While the positions opened by Apple directly amount to around 20 thousand, as we were quoted from Apple Insider, Sunday (5/3/2023).
The biggest contributor was Foxconn with 35 thousand jobs, while Pegatron and Wistron opened 14 thousand and 12 thousand new positions respectively. Each of those companies is also expected to open thousands of new jobs until the end of 2023.
Foxconn currently has a factory in Tamil Nadu, the southern part of India. This factory is not as big as the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou which has 200 thousand employees. But Foxconn continues to shake up its factories in India.
The Foxconn factory in India was first opened in 2019, and its production capacity has been continuously increased. Even for the year 2022, the factory has been trusted to produce the iPhone 14 which has not been released for too long. Previously, the factory was only believed to produce older generation iPhones.
Then there are also component suppliers for Apple product assembly plants, which provided around 40 thousand new jobs in the last 19 months, including Salcomp, which opened 11 thousand vacancies. They also plan to double the number of employees in India to 25 thousand in 2026.
For the past few years, Apple has tried to reduce its dependence on China, namely by starting to move a number of its factories from that country. One of Apple's target countries is India.
This was done because iPhone production in China continued to experience disruptions, including the disruption of various lockdown rules implemented by the Chinese government to suppress the spread of COVID-19.
