The year 2022 is quite challenging for smartphone manufacturers. The combination of the economy and the pandemic caused demand for new devices to plummet. Almost all major device manufacturers recorded a reduction in sales. Canalys has recently published a report on the production of wearable devices throughout 2022.
Among the five manufacturers with the largest share, only Apple managed to increase sales compared to 2021. Apple is still at the top with a 22.6% market share which equates to sales of more than 41 million Apple Watches. Last year they sold 39.4 million Apple Watches.
Xiaomi is in second place with a 9.3% share followed by Huawei (8.3%), Samsung (7.7%), and Google (6.4%). Even in second place, Xiaomi's production plunged -41% and Huawei -21%. Apple Watch is solidifying its position and Wear OS is far behind.
