So at MWC Barcelona 2023, Realme has launched their new flagship device for 2023 – Realme GT3. The device comes with a 144Hz screen, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip, a new RGB system and supports 240W fast charging – the world's fastest commercially.
At MWC, I had the opportunity to interview Chase Xu as Realme's vice president and chief marketing officer and Mark Wesley as product communications manager.
In this interview, many secrets were revealed. Some you may have heard before and some you may hear for the first time in this article.
Question: What is Realme's strategy for 2023, is there a foldable device?
As always, Realme will always focus on young users. But this year's target is that every device model launched will have at least one feature that surprises many or is different from the competitors' offerings. For example, the Realme 10 Pro has a rare Coca-Cola edition then the Realme GT3 that supports 240W fast charging which is the world's fastest commercial now.
For a device with a foldable screen, Realme will not come with a simple but truly unique device. We are still in early phase discussions and development, further details are yet to be revealed – so let's all stay tuned.
Question: Why does GT3 use Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 instead of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2?
This is because the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 has been on the market for a long time so it is a more stable and balanced chip from various directions. This allows the GT3 to operate with fast performance and support good fast charging. Not to forget, the chip that has been out for a long time allows us to sell the GT3 at a competitive price.
Question: Is Realme planning to present a real gaming device? Like supporting an ecosystem of accessories, shoulder buttons etc?
Realme always wants to come up with the best device in terms of performance. But at the same time it still wants to be a device that can be used as usual, that is, everyone's everyday device - so Realme will not come with any smartphone or tablet that focuses entirely on gaming. But our device can operate as both a gaming device and a daily device.
Question: Will Realme come with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 device, because on Weibo Chase Xu mentioned that a more powerful Realme device will arrive at the end of the year as the China GT3 which is different from the global GT3?
Yes. We are planning to come with a device powered by the Snapdragon 8 G Gen 2 chip. This device will be a flagship device that you have never seen before. This device might change the history of Realme's devices and might change the flagship device market. This device is currently under development with our R&D team.
Question: With all devices focusing on the use of 1-inch cameras and collaborations with camera brands, will Realme come with a device focusing on photography?
To ensure the price of the device is still competitive, the use of a 1-inch sensor is avoided for now. But a photography-focused device by Realme is already with our R&D team now. We are also looking forward to introducing this device to the public.
It looks like Realme has a lot planned for this year alone. They are indeed working to introduce devices with foldable screens, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 devices and photography devices. But will this brand under BBK remain in collaboration with Hasselblad or will it collaborate with Kodak as we previously reported? If it's true that Realme will change history, we ourselves can't wait to see what surprises they will present.
