Electronic Arts Lays Off 200 Apex Legends Employees Without Warning

The wave of layoffs continues. The latest episode comes from video game giant Electronic Arts.

The owner of the FIFA 23 game, has just fired 200 Apex Legends employees. Even worse, they do this without giving advance warning to their workers.

As reported by us from The Gamer, Thursday (2/3/2023), the worker who filled in the Quality Verification (QV) division was laid off several months before the contract ended. Electronic Arts notifies it without any prior memorandum or announcement.

The two employees who were affected by the layoffs said that the company had made no attempt to move them to another game division. It is known that the contribution of 200 workers will be replaced by a QA team in England, which has been trained by Electronic Arts.

"I'm on night shift, so my shift ends at one in the morning. At five in the morning we receive an email informing us that the office is closed and there will be a mandatory zoom meeting at eight in the morning," said one worker.

Through the meeting, they were informed that the company was terminating the QV Botun Rouge team. They said they only received 60 days of severance pay, even though the new contract ended in August 2023.

Meanwhile, Electronic Arts has yet to provide a response regarding their decision to lay off employees. So it's different from Sega, Nintendo, Capcom, and Bandai Namco who don't follow the trend of layoffs.

On the contrary, the four companies increased employee salaries. Sega has also explained its reasons for doing so.

"Sega Corporation will begin revising its compensation system to invest in human resources to further stabilize employee income and create a more comfortable work environment, as well as to further strengthen its global competitiveness," said Sega (20/2).

In addition, the base salary for employees who are university graduates increased from USD 1,653 to USD 2,234. More or less these numbers jump up to 35%.
