Employees Complaining About WFH Rules Leads to Being Fired

 


Activision was accused of illegally firing two of its game testers, because according to the union, the two people were fired for protesting WFH's policies using harsh words.

A union called the Communication Workers of America (CWA) reported the incident to the US National Labor Relations Board. CWA asked the two people who were fired to be re-employed at the company that made the Call of Duty game series.


The protest action was carried out after Activision changed the work from home (WFH) rules for its employees. Namely requiring employees to come at least three days per week starting next April.



Before this new rule was implemented, Activision freed its employees who wanted to work from outside the office. This rule has been implemented since the COVID-19 pandemic took place.


According to CWA, this change received a negative response from employees, which led to the dismissal of two Activision employees for protesting using harsh words.



Previously, the union also reported threats made by Activision to its employees who posted various matters related to working conditions via social media, we were quoted as saying by Reuters, Friday (3/3/2023).


Activision spokesperson Joseph Christinat said his company would take appropriate disciplinary steps against employees who violate the company's code of ethics regarding work conditions.


"Using language that is abusive, threatening, or harassing to co-workers is unacceptable and we are disappointed that CWA is advocating for this type of behavior violation," Christinat explained.


Microsoft is currently still trying to acquire Activision with a value of USD 69 billion. However, the acquisition has not received approval from the authorities. Several parties disagreed with the acquisition for fear that it would make Activision's popular game available on Microsoft's platform.
