Google Bard, the challenger to ChatGPT opened for registration and beta testing yesterday, and not long after, it seems that it has been caught doing something not so pretty.
Tom's Hardware, a computer hardware website well-known for reviews and news about computer components recently tested Google Bard to see if it could be a real competitor to ChatGPT.
When Bard was asked about the difference between the Intel Core i9-13900K and AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D processing chips, Google Bard appeared to have taken a paragraph directly from their website, and said that Google Bard themselves tested these components.
Bard was then asked about the source of the information, and later said that the source was from Tom's Hardware itself. More interestingly, when asked if it had plagiarized content, Google Bard admitted itself that yes, it had plagiarized content from the website.
Although the information provided by Google Bard appears to be accurate and up-to-date, the biggest issue is that it does not provide an actual source for the answers provided, and will say that the source is from them, until you ask about the source of the information.
Google Bard should provide this information and provide the source from which they took the information. Google Search is still seen as the most powerful search engine, but this activity of removing authentic sources will only show the bot as a software that steals other people's content.
