Seven years ago Google ATAP (Advanced Technology and Projects) introduced Project Jacquard which is the ability to weave technology directly into fabric. This technology integrates several sensors into the fabric and can then be used to perform several gesture commands.
Through this technology, Levi's Trucker Jacket, Yves Saint Laurent's CIT-E bag and Samsonite Konnect-i bag. All of these products allow users to control the smartphone by wrapping it around the fabric of a jacket or bag. Project Jacquard also comes with Jacquard Tag to monitor post-orthopedic surgery patients for recovery.
Recently, it was reported that Google might stop the development of this project. This was discovered by 9to5Google who found that the app for controlling Levi's jackets is no longer operational. Indirectly, the smart jacket has now turned into a regular jacket.
So far sources claim that Google may stop supporting products under Project Jacquard. But the future of this project is still uncertain whether it will continue or not. Projects with this kind of technology have a lot of potential.
Google ATAP is also the part of the company responsible for introducing Project Soli, which is a small radar sensor – also for gesture control. This technology was brought to the Google Pixel 4 and then integrated on the Google Nest Hub.
