The government is now seen to be postponing the implementation of the tax for online purchases of low-value imported goods to a new date. Previously, it was scheduled for April 1, 2023, but an updated notice on the official website of the Royal Malaysian Customs Department shows that it has been postponed to a new date.
Previously, during the last budget presentation, the government had announced that it would implement a sales tax for online imported goods worth less than RM500 sent by air courier, with a tax level of around 10% of the sales price.
With this postponement, no new dates have been given for now. We may hear more about this in the future.
