Honor Showcases Silicon-Carbon Battery With Higher Energy Density


 Batteries on current smartphones, tablets and laptops are based on lithium ion technology. This technology has some drawbacks such as low charging cycles. At MWC 2023, Honor showcased its new silicon-carbon battery technology.



By using silicon-carbon, the energy density of the battery becomes higher. On the global model Magic5 Pro comes with a 5100 mAh Li-ion battery. But in China the same device uses a silicon-carbon battery with a capacity of 5450 mAh. According to Honor another advantage of this battery is that at a low charge level, it can still offer the necessary current so that the device can function normally.



Overall this silicon-carbon battery has a charge density 12.8% higher than Li-ion. At this time Honor only offers devices with this new battery technology in the Chinese market only.
