Huawei Reportedly Lobbying For Opportunities In 5G Infrastructure Development In Malaysia

Huawei is now reported to be among the companies that are lobbying to be given space and opportunities in the development of 5G infrastructure in Malaysia.

Previously, the government had chosen Ericsson for the development of the 5G network infrastructure. But, since the beginning of the year, it is said that the government is reassessing this matter related to 5G.

Although the government has not yet given the final word, some analysts believe that any changes will have an impact on future investments from foreign countries due to uncertainty despite having signed a cooperation agreement.

It is said that there is a possibility that the government will allow another company to develop an alternative network and compete with Ericsson.

Analysts also target the development of a second infrastructure provider will increase costs, as well as affect the final price for consumers. There are some parties who also support the single provider model which may become a benchmark for various countries to follow in the future if successful.

For now, various telecommunication companies have used the services provided by DNB through the Ericsson infrastructure. However, only Maxis has not signed any agreement for 5G access.
