The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has now announced that it has carried out an operation involving a self-driving service provider, and found that one of the booking applications, namely MAXIM, has a large number of vehicles under the company's management that operate without a valid eHailing vehicle permit.
According to JPJ, out of 5000 active vehicles that use Maxim, only 402 vehicles have valid permits. This at the same time makes more than 4000 vehicles operating without a valid permit.
JPJ stated that the MAXIM company had violated the act that had been prepared, making the vehicle in question operate without a valid permit in Putrajaya and Pahang.
JPJ also emphasized that companies that operate by allowing self-driving vehicles without a valid permit under them can be convicted of an offense that carries a fine of not less than RM1,000 and not more than RM500,000, or imprisonment for not more than 2 years.
JPJ takes this matter seriously, because vehicles with permits protect passengers with guaranteed insurance coverage when using self-driving services, in the event of any road accident.
