The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) now emphasizes that more engineers are needed to help the country achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals, while building a more sustainable future for the people.
Currently, there are approximately 187,900 engineers who are officially registered in Malaysia. This makes the ratio of engineers in Malaysia to be 1:170 when compared to the Malaysian population of 32.7 million people. According to the ratio of engineers to population in developed countries, it is around 1:100.
With this comparison, MOSTI also emphasized that there is still a high demand for engineers in Malaysia, to achieve the status of a technology producing country.
At the same time, MOSTI and MRANTI stated that they will promote engineering as a viable career option among the younger generation.
