Pebble Founder Wants to Develop Mini-Size Android Smartphone

Eric Migicovsky was the founder of the once popular smartwatch, Pebble – before it was bought by Fitbit. Now, in addition to several projects in development, he also announced that he wants to develop a mini-sized or compact Android smartphone.

Previously, he was present with the "Small Android Phone" petition, due to the dumping of large-sized phones in the market that are not comfortable in the hand. Initially it was intended to encourage other manufacturers to produce mini-sized phones, but now, his own team is taking steps to bring the project to the next phase.

For now, it's still in the early stages, and even the company or entity behind it hasn't been registered yet. According to initial discussions, it is expected to use the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip or another Qualcomm chip. It may also include a 50-megapixel camera, in addition to offering at least 2 years of software support.

The selling price is also expected to be a bit expensive – given that it will be produced in limited quantities due to low initial demand, as well as the cost of development.

Previously, Apple was ready with the iPhone Mini, but has stopped it. Sony and Asus have also been present with their respective compact offerings, and have discontinued them.

With the demand for mini-sized phones in the market that is still sought, will we see the success of this project again like Pebble did?
