The foldable screen war will heat up this year with Honor, Vivo and Oppo already starting to offer their foldable screen devices globally. All this time Samsung dominated the market without real competition. According to a Canalys report, Samsung will produce 11 million foldable screen devices throughout 2022.
This is a much higher number than all the foldable screen devices released by their competitors Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi and Motorola. Their closest competitor Huawei produced less than 2 million foldable screen devices last year. According to Canalys, throughout 2022, as many as 14.2 million devices in this design were released with it expected to increase to 30 million in 2023.
With 11 million foldable screen devices, it is only around 4% of Samsung device production last year. Obviously the market for this device is still small as it is still dominated by devices with a candybar design. The biggest issue is the price of this device which is still too expensive.
