Samsung Releases Statement On Allegedly Fake Moon Mode Issue

Last weekend on Reddit and Twitter the topic of Samsung's camera app allegedly faking moon images was hot again. This is not the first time this issue has been raised but it has appeared when the S20 Ultra was launched before. A Reddit user claimed Samsung replaced the moon image on photos using zoom mode with a fake moon image stored in the app.

Samsung has issued an official statement regarding the allegations that are currently circulating on social media. According to them, Samsung's camera application uses a Super Resolution system that increases the resolution of sharpened images using artificial intelligence. Up to 10 pictures will be taken by the camera app before being combined into one sharp and clearly visible image of the moon. Through this technique, blurry and not sharp images will be avoided.

Also touched on is how the description of the moon can be changed to produce a better image. For users who do not want their photos to be processed by smart intelligence, Samsung aims to turn off the Scene Optimiser feature through the camera settings. With this all the photos captured will look like the real situation without any post-processing which is currently used in all the main manufacturer's camera applications.

The description released yesterday was actually published by Samsung before but only in Korean. With it now readable in English, the question of fake or not will be answered.
