Apple's augmented reality (AR) headset is expected to be shown to the public in just a few months. It will be Apple's first new product category since the Apple Watch. Although the product is getting closer to launch, The New York Times reports that there are staffers who are voicing doubts about this headset.
The NYT interviewed eight staffers and former staffers involved with a headset that might go by the Reality Pro name. Among the main concerns is that Reality Pro is seen as a product that doesn't solve any day-to-day problems and still lacks the features that would make it a must-buy product.
Concerns also exist because the first generation Reality Pro is predicted to sell for $3000 which makes it much more expensive than other Apple products on the market. Earlier reports appeared that Apple's engineering team felt that Reality Pro was not yet ready, but Tim Cook insisted on launching it immediately.
However, according to a Bloomberg report, Apple reportedly showed a demo of Reality Pro to their top 100 executives at the Steve Jobs Theater last week. The reaction from this group was positive with them feeling it has the potential to be like the Apple Watch. The Apple Watch was initially seen as a failure but now dominates more than half of the global smartwatch market.
