Tens of Thousands More Meta Employees Will Be Fired Next Week

Last year around 11,000 Meta employees were laid off as part of a post-pandemic workforce reduction measure. For staff who were not fired in the first wave, the WSJ now reports that Meta will do a second wave as early as next week.

As with the first wave, tens of thousands of staff will be phased out. The majority of those affected are not among the engineers needed to develop the product. In addition to the reduction of manpower, some projects that are being developed will also be affected.

Interestingly, among the affected projects are wearable devices and Reality Labs, which developed the Metaspace platform. With the world of metamesta not reaching the target and receiving less response, this decision is not surprising.

Zuckerberg has already stated that 2023 is the "Year of Efficiency" with the focus also being on artificial intelligence which is now an industry trend.
