The Government Targets 1.5 Million Electric Vehicles In Malaysia By 2040

The Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change, now shared that the government aims to have around 1.5 million electric vehicles in Malaysia by 2040.

This move is seen to be in line with wanting to achieve Malaysia's status as a zero carbon country by 2050.

Today, we can see active development in this arena, including the construction of charging infrastructure by private parties such as TNB and Gentari (Petronas).

Not to be outdone, we are ready to see the introduction of a number of electric vehicles in Malaysia by various manufacturers – including some new manufacturers for the local market. Local vehicle manufacturers such as Proton and Perodua are also expected to provide their respective offerings in a few more years which will make the demand for electric vehicles increase sharply in the coming years.
