Upgrading Steam Decks With OLED Displays Is Harder Than You Think

The popularity of the Steam Deck mobile console, which allows users to play their favorite computer games in a portable device like the Nintendo Switch, is practically increasing every week.

There is a new demand for the console to come with a design that uses an OLED display to replace the LCD panel of the original model, and although it is something that Valve wants to do, the reality is that the development of the device is not just about changing the screen.

Speaking to PC Gamer, one of the programmers for the console, Pierre-Loup Griffais said that upgrading the Steam Deck's display from IPS to OLED was not that easy.

This is because the Steam Deck is built around the original LCD screen display, and if the display is changed, Valve will need to redesign the frame of this console to ensure that all the components not only fit inside, but do not cause issues in terms of performance and hot temperatures. due to insufficient space.

He said that if Valve wanted to build a Steam Deck with an OLED display, it would be easier for them to build a new console using components such as the latest AMD Ryzen Zen 4 and RDNA2 chips for more powerful performance as well.

It is not yet known whether Valve will take the public's opinion on how the console should be upgraded, but it would be quite interesting if it is true that the next Steam Deck will come with an OLED screen panel.
