Tiktok applications are prohibited from being used in the United States government. Government employees are given 30 days to delete it.
Quoted from the New York Post, Wednesday (1/3/2023), Shalanda Young, as the Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), said that his party prohibited the popular Chinese video sharing application was installed on the devices and federal government systems. This is an effort to avoid the Chinese government spying on them.
The US government is worried that the Tiktok parent company, Bytedance, will provide access to the Chinese Communist Party (PKT) to be able to access user data. Although, Bytedance denied the accusation and called it a misinformation.
Some US government offices, such as the White House, the Department of Defense and the Department of Foreign Affairs, have banned the Tiktok application from their government employee gadgets. That was before the voting of the congress was carried out in December 2022.
"To protect the privacy and security of the American people," said Chris Derusha, as Head of Federal Omb's Federal Information.
The direction states that the prohibition of Tiktok will be canceled if there is approved national security, law enforcement, or security research conducted on government apparatus.
The memo added that in 90 days, government agencies are required to handle the use of applications to IT vendors through contracts. In 120 days, they had to adopt a new ban on Tiktok.
Some states such as Maryland, South Carolina, Nebraska, and Texas have inaugurated similar regulations to prohibit government agencies from using Tiktok for security reasons.
"Anyone who has Tiktok in his device has given back access to the Chinese Communist Party to access all his personal information," said Mike McCaul, a member of the United States Congress from the Republican party.
US President Joe Biden also received the support of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the DPR to prohibit tiktok from all devices in the United States.
