Welcome to a future where the car is no longer just a mode of transportation that gets you from point A to point B but is now a mobile computer. With increasingly sophisticated infotainment systems, it is common for owners to use Android Auto or Car Play to display applications on the car screen.
This week the Volkswagen Group announced that their vehicle's infotainment system will have its own store where owners can download popular apps. Among the applications that can be downloaded are Spotify, TikTok, Vivaldi and Yelp. At the initial stage the infotainment system with application store will be given to the latest models of Audio vehicles before being expanded to their other brands such as Bentley, Lamborghini, and Porsche.
Volkswagen Group will offer applications in various categories such as music streaming, podcasting, teleconferencing, electric charging, mapping and more. More than two dozen apps will be offered in the early stages with several hundred apps in development.
This infotainment system with its own store was developed by Cariad which is a subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group in collaboration with Harman.
