The popularity of chatgpt which continues to surge is also used by cyber criminals. Users also have to be careful because many fake chatgpt applications that spread dangerous malware.
Safety researchers from Cyble found 50 dangerous applications that used chatgpt icons and had similar names. All of these applications are fake and do not have an artificial intelligence function (AI).
Cyble reports say these applications carry various types of malware, ranging from adware, spyware, billing fraud, and others. One example revealed in the Cyble report is 'chatgpt1', a naughty application that can register victims to premium sms services until the credit is drained.
There is also the 'Ai Photo' application which turned out to contain spynote malware. This malware can steal a variety of information from victims' devices, ranging from telephone call logs, contact lists, SMS, and other files.
In addition to the application, Cyble also found a number of sites that said the name OpenAI and ChatGPT to spread dangerous malware. One of them is 'chatgpt-go.online' which spreads malware that can steal the contents of the clipboard and malware Aurora thief.
There is also the 'Pay.ChatgptFTW.com' site that features a payment portal to subscribe to chatgpt plus services. But this site is used to launch a phishing attack that can steal user credit card information, as quoted from Bleeping Computer, Wednesday (1/3/2023).
To note, chatbot chatgpt services are currently only available through the site 'chat.openai.com'. Openai as the creator of chatgpt has not launched a mobile or desktop application for the chatbot.
ChatGPT Plus paid services can also only be accessed through the official website. Some fake applications and sites found by Cyble also offer chatgpt plus access for free, so don't be tempted.
If you find other applications or sites that claim to be chatgpt are imitators who try to cheat or infect devices with malware, so you should avoid it.
