Samsung launched the Exynos Connect U100 today with it combining all bluetooth, WiFi and UWB (Ultra Wide Band) systems in a self-designed chip. This puts them ahead of Apple developing its own BT and WiFi chips to replace Broadcom chips.
The uniqueness of the U100 chip is that it also supports UWB. On Apple devices the U1 chip has been used for the past few years for the UWB system for AirTag. With the U100, objects can be tracked within a distance of less than 10 centimeters and within an angle of 5 degrees from the location.
Samsung says the U100 can also be used in smart, automotive and internet of things devices. The ability to be a digital key is also included once it passes the Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC) Digital Key Release 3 standard.
The first device with the U100 has yet to be announced but its launch comes a few weeks after news broke that the second-generation Samsung SmartTag would launch this year.
