YouTube Relaxes Policy on Use of Abusive Language in Videos

A career as a creator on YouTube is still new but can generate a decent income. With the help of advertising and sponsorship, it is not impossible to earn up to seven figures in Malaysia. But YouTube has put in place various guidelines that must be followed if creators want to continue making money.

Among those introduced in November last year is the barrier to using abusive language that can cause videos to not display any ads. The guidelines received negative feedback from the community for being too restrictive.

Now the guidelines have been amended to provide some flexibility. Videos that use "heavy foul language" such as the "F" word are still allowed as long as it is not in the first 7 seconds or used multiple times throughout the video. This heavy abusive language should also not be used in video titles and thumbnails as it automatically results in the advertising being stopped.

There is also "moderate foul language" such as the words calaka and faeces which are allowed. Its use is allowed in higher amounts compared to the previous category. Through this change, the issue of videos not being able to generate income will be resolved.
