Amazon Will Also Offer Satellite Internet Services As Early as 2024

Amazon has shut down BookDepsitory and DPReview in recent weeks, angering users. Many see this as Amazon's move to start cutting costs to increase profits. The focus is on space now with Jeff Bezos focusing on Blue Origin which sends tourists into space and eventually to the surface of the moon.

In 2021, Amazon's Project Kuiper was announced as their effort to offer satellite internet services like StarLink. Today Amazon announced that they aim to offer Project Kuiper to the first customers starting in 2024. The massive construction of the satellite network will be done by the end of this year before it is launched into orbit in the first 6 months of 2024.

Two types of terminals will be offered with one system having a 7" rectangular signal receiver. Through this system speeds up to 100 Mbps can be enjoyed. Another signal receiver is 19″ x 30″ that offers download speeds of up to 1Gbps.

Project Kuiper's internet access terminal cost about $400 to build. If Amazon sells it at a lower price than StarLink ($599 apiece) they can give competition to the company owned by Elon Musk.
