VirnetX won a lawsuit against Apple allegedly using their patented technology in applications such as iMessage. The case, which has been going on since 2010, is still not over even though Apple was ordered to pay $502 million in damages to VirnetX. by a court in Texas in 2020.
This week an appeals court sided with Apple after the Patent and Trademark Office invalidated two patents owned by VirnetX that were the basis of a previously filed lawsuit. All this time Apple insists that the technology used by them does not infringe any patents with VirnetX being accused of being a patent toyol company that has never produced any products. Lawsuits are used by VirnetX to profit from companies that allegedly infringe on their patents.
This case is not yet over because VirnetX will also file an appeal to the High Court to once and for all resolve the crisis that has dragged on for 13 years.
