Court Rejects Epic Games Appeal Claiming Apple App Store Is Monopoly

Apple and Epic Games sued each other three years ago after Fortnite was removed from the App Store. The action was taken because Fortnite offers its own store that bypasses Apple's in-app purchase (AIP) system. After the case was heard in court, the judge did not side with Epic Games who claimed that Apple violated anti-monopoly laws.

An immediate appeal was filed by Epci Games but now it has also been rejected by the court. In total 9 out of 10 accusations Epic Games against Apple have been rejected in court. Even so, Apple still needs to give users the option to make AIP payments outside of the App Store ecosystem. This has already been provided by Apple in some markets such as South Korea and for "reading" applications such as Netflix since last year.

In fact, in iOS 17 later, Apple will allow sideloading of applications to meet a bill in Europe that requires customers to be given the option to download applications from third parties.
