Traditionally E-Ink screens can only display monochrome content making them the best panel for e-book reader devices like the Kindle. But this screen technology continues to be developed by E-Ink and a few years ago color screens began to be offered. Now E Ink Spectra 6 has been announced and it is now able to offer colors as good as LCD screens.
Specter 6 has a pixel density of 200 PPI and a contrast ratio of 30:1 with a color display that is not only an LCD panel but as good as a printed paper display. It is marketed for in-store advertising purposes Through the E Ink Sparkle feature, animations can be displayed on the screen to attract the attention of customers viewing the displayed ad.
According to E Ink, Spectra 6 is up to 12,000 times more efficient in electricity consumption than LCD panels and up to 60,000 times more efficient than printed paper advertising. E Ink Spectra 6 will start to be marketed in 2024.
