Google Authenticator Now Supports Backup To The Cloud

After Twitter turned off SMS support for two-factor authentication (2FA) for regular users, many complained that the app only supports one device. We recommend using Google Authenticator or a security key as another way to prevent accounts from being hacked. If it is not accessible and the emergency code is not backed up, the account will be locked. This morning Google Authenticator was updated to enable account backup to the cloud.

With this backup, all user accounts that require Authenticator can be restored to the new device and synchronized on other devices owned. This will be useful if the original device used with the Authenticator is lost, stolen or damaged. This is a feature that Autheticator users have been asking for since its launch in 2010.

To use this feature yourself, please update Authenticator to the latest version on your Android (version 6.0) and iOS (version 4.0) devices now. Along with the introduction of this new feature, the app's logo has also been changed to look more in line with other Google apps.
