Google Introduces Nearby Share For Windows – Beta Test Ready For Download

Nearby Share is the fastest and most efficient file sharing method I've ever used after AirDrop. Although Google was slow to introduce this feature after several years of using it, there is no denying that Nearby Share is much better than Apple's file sharing feature.

This feature supports transferring to multiple devices simultaneously, can easily share large files, can control who is eligible to receive files and more. Last year Google planned to expand the use of Nearby Share to Windows and not limited to Chrome OS only. Recently the Nearby Share beta app for Windows was announced ready for testing and download by all.

Nearby Share for Windows is free to use by all Android device users with the condition that a Google account should be used. If you want to share to your own device make sure the same Google account is used. This feature can also send files to other people as long as they have Nearby Share installed and their email is in your contact list. The contact list is also under the user's own control.

Interestingly this feature allows users to send files from PC to phone or vice versa without any problem. In a simple test I did a file of around 4GB can be sent at a rate of 7.7MB/s which is quite fast compared to Apple Air Drop which sometimes even 2Gb files are problematic.
