Google Sued South Korea RM140 Million For Preventing The First Launch In Another Application Store

Google and anti-competitive suits are nothing new. The technology conglomerate company has been sued many times before, and most recently, the South Korean government has sued the company for 42.1 billion won (RM140 million) for preventing the first Android products from being officially launched in third-party app stores.

Throughout June 2016 until April 2018, Google is seen to have taken advantage of developers in the country by saying that only developers launched exclusively on the Google Play Store will receive promotions in the application.

this causes local retail stores to not be able to introduce the latest retail stores and compete with the dominance of the Google Play Store. Among the first stores and developers and applications affected by Google's monopoly include One Store, Netmarble, Nexon and NCSoft and various other small developers.

Google is seen to decide to challenge this suit, because in their opinion, the company has helped developers in the country more than the other way around.

This is not the first time Google has been sued by the country's government through the Korean Free Trade Commission. In 2021, the body sued Google for 200 billion Won (~RM667 million) for preventing a customized version of the Android operating system from being installed in the country.
