IDC – PC Production Drops 29% In Q1 2023 And Apple Loses Almost Half

We previously reported that Apple had stopped production of their Apple M2 series chips last month due to lack of demand in the market. Today IDC released a report on the personal computer market that shows a significant decline in the market in the first quarter of 2023.

The overall personal computer market decreased by 29% in Q1 2023 compared to Q1 2022. Lenovo recorded the largest production with a 22.4% share followed by HP (21.1%), Dell (16.7%), Apple (7.2%), and ASUS (6.8%). All manufacturers in this group of five largest recorded double-digit production declines.

Apple was the worst affected with a 40.5% reduction in production and Dell was second with 31% with Lenovo and Asus each down 30.3%. Post-pandemic the demand for personal computers decreased sharply and the effects can be seen as early as Q3 2022.
