Apple currently still limits the installation of applications only through the AppStore, and does not allow any installation of applications using other methods - either through third-party application stores or by sideloading.
However, that is expected to change soon, and iOS17 is expected to include some basic development before the sideloading feature is included.
Sideloading is one of the popular application installation methods on Android, where users can download an APK file, and install it directly on the device - without going through the app store.
The feature on iOS17 is expected to be the basis for similar features on the iPhone – in line with the European Union's move to enforce legislation allowing alternative app stores to be offered on every platform.
It is said that iOS17 is likely to include basic features that will allow Apple to activate similar features in the future.
As always, let's all look forward to the official introduction of iOS17 at WWDC in June.
