iPhone Holds Nearly 50% of the Used Smartphone Market

Last year the world's new smartphone production shrank 12% compared to 2022 due to the post-pandemic economic pressure that can still be felt. This is not helped by the selling price of new smartphones which is also increasing. But according to Counterpoint Research, the opposite is happening in the global used smartphone market.

According to them, sales of used smartphones increased 5% last year compared to 2021. Apple iPhone holds 49% of the market followed by Samsung 26%, Oppo (3%), Vivo (3%) and Huawei (2%). Devices from other manufacturers hold 17% of the market. The iPhone shows an increase from 44% in 2021.

Consumers looking for savings buy used devices to reduce the cost of buying "new" devices. In the United States, the sale of used iPhones at cheaper prices makes the iPhone increasingly the smartphone with the highest number of users. It indirectly affects the affordable Android phone market.
