Lotus And Gentari Sign MoU To Develop Local EV Charging Infrastructure

Brands such as Tesla, BYD, BMW and others have now started to offer their electric vehicle options for drivers in the local market, and although the amount of use is only increasing little by little, the need for faster and more charging centers is already starting to show. .

Because of this, sustainable energy supplier company Gentari and also Lotus Cars Malaysia (LCM), the exclusive distributor of Lotus-branded vehicles in Malaysia have signed a two-year MoU to develop electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Malaysia.

According to this agreement, Gentari and LCM will work together for two years to develop this charging infrastructure not only in LCM locations, but also in public areas around Malaysia.

This collaboration was signed during the official launch of Lotus' first Hyper SUV, the Lotus Eletre. LCM has confirmed that with this collaboration, the owners of these vehicles will also have the opportunity to have their own EV charging package, but the details of this package have not been refined yet.

The development of the EV charging infrastructure also includes a digital platform for LCM in the future, likely to make it easier for Lotus Eletre vehicle owners to find charging locations and make it easier for them to plan their journey.

So far, Gentari has around 150 EV chargers at 35 charging locations in Malaysia and has plans to install as many as 25,000 EV chargers around Asia Pacific by 2030. For the near term, Gentari is seen wanting to install as many as 9000 EV chargers in Malaysia and India by 2026.
