The Malaysian Cyber Consumer Association (MCCA), has now expressed its opinion asking the government to review the 24-month contract requirements along with the recently launched Fixed Broadband Unity Package.
Under the Fixed Broadband Unity Package, a 30Mbps internet plan is offered at a subscription price of RM69 per month. However, telecommunications companies require users to subscribe to it under a 24-month contract.
The MCCA president stated that there should be no need for contracts because it gives the impression of capitalism. The contract will also be said to bind the user and give a sense of discomfort.
At the same time, he also stated that consumers have the right to voice complaints or dissatisfaction, but it should be done through the right channels and take into account many factors.
