Meta Cancels All Native Facebook Watch Content

In 2017, Facebook Watch was launched by Facebook (now Meta) to make it an alternative platform to YouTube. In order to attract users to their streaming platform, some content of Faceook Watch Original was announced with it being exclusive content. Today the Red Table Talk series is finally canceled with it also being the last Facebook Watch Original content.

The series with host Jada Pinkett Smith was canceled at the same time as the closure of their original content production business which saw Mina Lefevre who was head of Facebook Watch Original content development also fired. Red table Talk has been on air since 2018 with it also being the longest running receiving four seasons.

In the early stages, Facebook Watch received $1 billion a year in funding from Meta to produce a variety of original content in the form of reality TV series, TV series, sports events and news shows. Like YouTube Red, the demand for Watch's original content has not been very encouraging and now Zuckerberg's dream of having a streaming platform is also buried.
