Netflix Now Has 232.5 Million Subscribers And Drops The Password Sharing Barrier

A year ago many said Netflix would die as the number of subscribers decreased for the first time in history causing its stock value to suffer as well. But today they announced they have 232.5 million paid subscribers which is an increase of 1.75 million subscribers compared to last quarter.

What's interesting for Netflix is that revenue from ad-supported plan subscriptions is now higher than the basic ad-free subscription plan. Because of this overwhelming response, Netflix plans to offer streaming in full HD and on two devices simultaneously on an ad-supported plan. Previously it was limited to HD only with one stream. The plan still won't offer customers the entire Netflix catalog.

Along with today's announcement, Netflix said it will delay plans to ban password sharing in the United States that have been tested in Canada, New Zealand, Portugal and Spain.
