OpenAI Fails to Speed Up the Process of Obtaining a Trademark for "GPT"

Before ChatGPT, many had never heard the term generative artificial intelligence or Generative Pre-trained Transformer or better known as GPT. After ChatGPT became the talk of the town, there were various other services that used the GPT term. OpenAI who developed ChatGPT has tried to speed up the process of filing a trademark for GPT but their application has been rejected.

The application was rejected by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) rejecting the document OpenAI filed in December last year. Normally this process takes up to five months. The USPTO does not speed up the process of awarding this trademark because it has to go through several procedures.

OpenAI claims that the process needs to be accelerated because there are now various other and fake services using GPT terms that can have a negative impact on their products.

There are several other companies that are also trying to file GPT terms such as TruthGPT announced by Elon Musk. Although their first attempt was rejected, OpenAI is confident that they will succeed in their next attempt because it is undeniable that the term GPT only became popular after their product was launched to the public last year.
