Technology is used to advance human civilization. In cars, for example, automatic air conditioning, rear camera, automatic parking and side screens have already replaced analog systems. Polestar which is a subsidiary of Volvo has launched their latest electric SUV Polestar 4 which has no rearview mirror at all.
The rear is completely covered with the rearview mirror suspended in the cabin replaced by an HD screen. A rear-mounted camera will display an image on this screen giving the illusion that the vehicle still has a standard rear-view mirror. The system that was introduced caused controversy but is actually no different from the two LCD screens on the sides of Honda, Audio and Lexus cars in the last two years.
Polestar 4 is equipped with an electric motor with a power of up to 400 kW (536 HP) with the ability to accelerate from 0-100 kmh in 3.8 seconds. There are single or dual motor versions paired with a 102-kWh battery. Travel distance can reach up to 600 km WLTP. 200-kW DC and 22-kW AC fast charging is supported.
The cockpit is equipped with a 10.2″ screen for the driver, 15.4″ for the infotainment system and a 14.7″ HUD system on the windshield that uses the Snapdragon Cockpit platform. It will be sold at prices starting at $60,000 (~RM266,000) apiece in 2024 with it being built by Geely at their Hangzhou Bay factory
