Reddit is known as the largest internet forum in the world, and interestingly, is one of the platforms used by companies such as OpenAI and Google to teach their artificial intelligence systems.
Recently, Reddit said that they will start charging large companies that want to access their API for purposes like this. This payment plan allows these companies for higher API usage limits, additional features and broader usage rights.
Reddit is also seen to update the terms and conditions of use of these API services soon, and will send notices to companies that use the service at a high rate. These new terms and conditions will reportedly take effect 60 days after notice is sent to companies using them.
For example, Google has recently introduced their artificial intelligence technology called Bard, and has confirmed that the artificial intelligence's LLM (Large Language Model) was trained using the text of conversations on Reddit from 2007 until 2016, and this was done for free. .
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said that although data and conversations on Reddit can be seen and accessed for free, it does not mean that the data should be given for free to companies that want to take advantage and make a profit on it.
