The Samsung Galaxy Watch5 and Watch5 Pro have a built-in temperature sensor which is then used to track the menstrual cycle. After almost eight months on the market, this feature is starting to be activated on these smartwatches in certain markets.
Owners in Europe, the United States and South Korea received an update activating the temperature sensor yesterday. Certification from the CE health body in Europe, the FDA in the U.S. and the MFDS in South Korea allows this watch to function as a medical device. In addition to tracking the menstrual cycle, the sensor can also track body temperature to see if the wearer has a fever or not.
In Malaysia we are still waiting for confirmation from the Ministry of Health before this feature can also be activated. Samsung Malaysia has not confirmed when this feature will be available in the local market. Previously, the ECG and blood pressure features were activated in Malaysia on the Galaxy Watch series after users waited for several years.
