Twitter Brings Back Legacy Blue Smear On Accounts With Over 1 Million Followers

Twitter removes legacy blue smears on accounts that don't pay for Twitter Blue subscriptions. This action received the criticism of the majority of recipients of legacy blue smear. Yesterday it was suddenly reinstated on an account with over 1 million accounts. In Malaysia, for example, the accounts of former PM Tun Dr Mahathir and Tan Sri Mahiaddin are now back in blue.

There is no official statement from Twitter saying why it is only given to accounts with over 1 million followers. Last Friday Elon Musk admitted sponsoring Blue subscriptions for LeBron James, Stephen King and William Shatner who are three millionaires.

Immediately after the blue smear was returned to legacy accounts, many owners issued statements denying that they had subscribed to Blue as claimed in the past if the blue smear icon was pressed.
