UK To Spend $554 Million To Develop Its Own AI

Elon Musk once said that the country with the best intelligence (AI) will rule the world in the future. His predictions seem to be coming true with the world's major superpowers now starting to develop their own artificial intelligence. Not to be outdone, the United Kingdom announced a £100 million fund (~RM 554 million) to establish a Foundation Model Taskforce to develop its own AI.

Through the Foundation Model Taskforce, the AI that is developed will give the UK an edge to remain globally competitive. Cooperation with industry players will ensure that it is safe and at the same time more reliable than the AI that exists today.

The fund is part of the £900 million fund announced by the UK government in the latest budget to develop the skalaexa supercomputer and more comprehensive research in the field of AI. With self-developed AI, the UK hopes it will make their country a technology and science superpower by 2030.

Among the targets for the use of AI is to increase the country's economy which is predicted to triple. In the medical field, the process of diagnosis, developing drugs and developing treatments can be accelerated. While in the field of education, it will lighten the burden of the teachers' daily tasks, with their focus being able to be fully devoted to teaching.

With the intervention of the government, issues regarding morality, use of user data and the safety of the developed AI are also expected to be resolved. Google Deepmind is among the AIs developed in the UK. The expertise already exists and with this fund the UK seems serious about using AI to brighten the nation's future.
