ChatGPT, a digital assistant that uses artificial intelligence that can be used to facilitate various tasks was recently reported to have caused data leakage issues at a Samsung factory in South Korea.
Recently, it was reported that there were three cases where the ChatGPT service was used to improve the quality of programming code at Samsung factories and also details about a number of confidential processes at the factory were uploaded to ChatGPT.
The first case is shown where written programming code has been entered into ChatGPT to find issues and fix errors. The second case is seen as more serious where a Samsung employee has uploaded a document that helps in finding defects in the developed processing chip.
This is a serious issue because the test sequences and patterns used by Samsung to find these unsatisfactory processing chips are company secrets that should not be uploaded to the internet, especially to third-party artificial intelligence services that would store these details.
Another incident was when another Samsung employee used the ChatGPT service to compile meeting data to be used as a presentation file. The meeting was also seen to contain confidential company data that should not be exposed to third party systems on the internet.
Samsung says that even if the use of ChatGPT in the company is allowed, they will apparently try to develop their own artificial intelligence assistant that ensures that the data entered into the system will remain within the company and not uploaded to server machines outside the company's control.
This is one of the first incidents where issues such as confidential company data are accidentally uploaded to an artificial intelligence system. For now it is not known whether this leak will have a negative impact on Samsung's technology testing and development process.
