Ads are necessary to generate revenue and continue the application. But people don't like watching ads and are willing to put up a blocker. But would you be willing to watch a lifetime of commercials if you were given a free smart TV? Telly is a startup founded by Pluto TV founder Ilya Pozin that offers free TV if you're willing to watch ads.
The Telly TV is unique as it consists of a 55″ main screen with a 4K HDR panel. There is a secondary screen at the bottom that will display ads all the time. It can also be used to display important information such as stocks or the latest sports match scores. It uses TellyOS a standalone operating system that currently does not support streaming platforms such as Netflix. But Telly gives free AndroidTV dongle to all users.
Another interesting feature is a built-in soundbar with a camera. This camera can be used for gesture control as well as tracking exercise done with applications that support it. Each TV also comes with 3x HDMI, a USB port and a built-in digital TV decoder.
Telly will give away 500,000 of these TVs for free with the registration page already open. TV receivers have to agree to have their data tracked and used for advertising purposes. If it fails, the TV should be returned to Telly. If it fails they will have to pay $500 to buy it directly but all Telly services will be stopped.
