AMD Ryzen 7840U Launches With Performance Beyond Apple M2

 


The AMD Ryzen 7840U was officially announced late last night with AMD claiming its performance surpasses the Apple M2 chip. It is a chip for laptops with it being confirmed to be used by devices manufactured by Acer, Framework, HP, Lenovo, and Razer.



In terms of performance the 7840U offers a 24% improvement over the AMD 6850H chip. More interesting is the claimed 75% performance improvement in media encoding compared to the Apple M2 chip used in a MacBook Air. When compared to the Intel Core i7-1360 chip, a 128% performance increase was recorded.



The 7840U comes with eight cores and 16 threads with a speed of 3.2 GHz and can reach 5.1 GH and a TDP between 15-30W. The built-in GPU is a Radeon 780M from the RDNA 3 family equipped with 6 CUs. TSMC's 4nm technology is used to produce this chip.
