Rapid Security Response was announced at last year's WWDC as a quick way for Apple to deliver critical security patches to iPhones, iPads and Macs without going through a bulky operating system update process. This week updates iOS 16.4.1 (a), iPadOS 16.4.1 and macOS 13.3.1. are the first three delivered to user devices via macOS 13.3.1.
On the iPhone device for example, the security patch is only 82MB in size which is much smaller than the security patch along with the operating system update which reaches hundreds of MB in size. Apple advises device owners to turn on the automatic update feature to allow security patches to be delivered immediately.
