Recently, Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak and other tech frontmen wrote an open letter to stop the development of artificial intelligence or AI because it was considered dangerous. However, some parties disagree for several reasons.
"AI systems with intelligence rivaling that of humans can pose a grave risk to society and humanity, as demonstrated by extensive research and recognized by leading AI laboratories," reads the opening letter from Elon Musk, et al. Until there is adequate regulation, sophisticated AI should not be created.
But in a report published by the British Computer Society (BSC), stopping the development of AI is considered ineffective because bad parties will ignore it and instead take advantage.
Humanity will benefit more from the ethical limitations surrounding AI than stopping its development. The BCS Institute represents those working in IT and computer science in the UK and overseas, with over 70,000 members including academics and industry figures.
"We cannot ensure that every country and company with the power to develop AI will comply with the pause, at a time when the rewards for violating the embargo are enormous," said BCS CEO Rashik Palmar.
He adds that technology needs to be helped to grow responsibly, such as by making it part of public education and ensuring it is clearly warned each time it is used.
A similar opinion was expressed by Bill Gates some time ago. he judged it would be better to focus on how to make the best use of AI developments. In addition, it will be very difficult to stop the advancement of AI globally, as Elon Musk and others have suggested.
"I think asking a certain group to delay AI development will solve the challenge. Obviously there are huge benefits from AI, what we need to do is to identify areas that are difficult," he said.
"I don't really understand who can stop it and whether every country in the world agrees to stop it and why. But there are many different opinions in this matter," he added.
