Various companies are beginning to experiment with the use of artificial intelligence in facilitating daily tasks, as well as company operations. Most recently, Astro through the Astro Awani channel is also experimenting with AI, and has started testing their own artificial intelligence-based presenters, named Joon and Monica.
Joon appeared with the face of a Korean man, and delivered in Malaysian at the first ever partnership. It is also integrated with the use of voice generation based on artificial intelligence in Malaysian.
The use of images, facial expressions, and mouth movements are synchronized with the use of voice – thus enabling this artificial intelligence-based presenter to be produced. In addition to Joon, Astro Awani is also present with the use of a western female presenter, named Monica. This experiment is arguably still early days, and it's not impossible that in a few weeks or months we'll be able to see AI-based presenters designed to look more like local citizens.
For the time being, Astro Awani stated that the use of this artificial intelligence technology is not intended to replace the talents of presenters, but rather to use technology to continuously improve and strengthen the quality of the products produced.
